Excellent Italian American bakery with all the classic favorites. The eclair had the best custard cream I have ever had, brownies are excellent and did not yet try the Napoleon or lobster tail. Italian bread had great hard crust the way it should and makes a great Italian sandwich. I found this bakery because I was looking for a place to buy some pastries to bring to a friends house as I was coming from a distance in south Jersey. They were so good I decided to stop again on the way home and bring an assortment of pastries for back home. Really loved this place, it reminded me of the great bakeries of Long Island and Brooklyn of the 70s and 80s.

So pleased with our purchases! The struffoli was the best I ever had. The balls were delicious and the many toppings were an assortment of sprinkles, cherries, diced fruit, almonds and candy coated almonds. Just amazing! My birthday cake was moist and my guests all complimented on the taste and quality of the cake. Abbate is my new go to bakery! No need to try anyplace else!

Ok, so I ordered my sister a custom cake for her 40th bday. I live in California and I sent them a photo and had a phone consultation regarding the cake and flavors I wanted in the cake. I was excited to see how it turned out. I wanted a simple, rustic, feminine looking cake. I did not want a traditional looking cake plastered in old school icing. I also wanted a cake that was light with fruit inside. My sister never got to have a wedding cake and recently divorced, so I wanted this cake to be very special. The cake was a huge hit. People at the party asked where I got the cake. My sister, who generally doesn't eat sweets, wanted another piece. I also ordered some pastries and couldn't believe how good they were. I was like, this place is like an old-school Italian bakery from NYC... I did some research, and I found out they were in Brooklyn since 1976, and in 2000, they moved to Matawan, NJ. How lucky are we!! Now, every time I come to NJ to visit my family, I will be stuffing my face with their Canolli's and lobster tails!!! Thank you for making my sister's special day even more special. She and her friends are still talking about the cake.

In my opinion this is the best bakery in the state of New Jersey. They can do anything and the taste is the best of the best. I would recommend to anyone in NJ even if you have to drive for them it’s worth it. This is the cake we made for my sons first birthday and it was spot on word for word exactly how my wife wanted it. Me and my partner traveled to Abbate Bakery from an hour away based off a recommendation. We were so excited because this bakery was known for its freshness. After ordering we decided to try some of the items we purchased. By my surprise after taking a bite of my tart thank god I noticed big mold spot on one of the raspberries! My stomach is already super sensitive so you can image the disappointment. My partner went back to try and get a refund and one of the young girls said she would take down the information for her manager to call back because she couldn’t refund us for the full bill. It wasn’t until my partner explained we traveled an hour away so we wouldn’t be able to get it the next day and the severity of the mold that she finally took initiative and called her manager. We were refunded the money but we will not be returning.

Over the past few years, I have gotten a few special occasion cakes from Abbate Bakery and each one has been a work of art that is equally delicious. The most recent was my wedding cake, which was absolute breathtaking. I came to Abbate Bakery with a few ideas with reference photos and Lindsay pulled the elements together to make my vision a reality. She helped advise my husband and I on what would work best and also helped us to decide what flavors would be best for the occasion. Our guests had nothing but great things to say. In comparing all of the cakes I've gotten, it's clear that there is true talent at this bakery and a passion for creating top-quality desserts. Abbate Bakery truly delivers on what its customers want and will go the extra mile for them, which, in my book, makes them stand out from others I have gone to. The best part of this bakery is the level of professionalism and the feeling of talking to a friend. I highly recommend!
